Robinson's Report

May 2008

Math

We are currently wrapping up our unit on Shapes and Solids. Students have analyzed angles, 3-D shapes, applied rotation, translation and reflection. Students also learned how to find the volume of a shape. Our next unit of study will be focused on Patterns. We will also review test taking skills and strategies for doing well on the End of Grade Test.

Writing

Students have been hard at work on their biography research project. They have written a report about their famous person and are in the process of making a puppet. We will have a puppet show next week to share all these great projects!

Reading

The current theme of our reading selections is Nature. Students will be reading about acts of nature such as wildfires and using nature to sustain life. During small group instruction we will be review testing taking strategies by reading long passages and answering comprehension questions.

Science/Social Studies

Mrs. Hawkins/Mrs. Hunsberger's classes are studying Rocks and Minerals in Science. Ms. Robinson/Mrs. Cerullo's classes are studying electricity and magnetism. In Social Studies, the students are working on creating North Carolina map that show the counties as well as fast facts about each region.

What a creative group of 4 th graders! The NC projects were amazing! All four teachers are so proud of all the hard work that the students put it to their projects!! We were so glad that we could put them on display in the Media Center .

Thank you to everyone who came to see the North Carolina program Thursday afternoon. The children were so excited to have large audiences to perform the program for!
Sincerely,
