Baileywick Guidance and Counseling Program
At Baileywick, Character Education is not a stand-alone program. It is a part of everyday life in the classroom, the cafeteria, specials classes, at recess, in the cafeteria, at carpool and on the bus. We expect all students, staff, and parents to be treated with respect, and to treat others respectfully.
The School Counselor, teachers, and staff work together on a team as part of the School Improvement Plan to integrate character education in each grade-level's curriculum. For grades K and 1, the Counselor teaches the meaning of the character traits. Teachers use videos and/or story time for younger grades to open discussions on positive character choices. For older grades, the Counselor focuses on conflict resolution, friendships, and other social skills. Teachers incorporate character education in language arts and social studies projects.
When students display a character trait, they can be recognized in the Baileywick Best Hall of Fame with their name on a brick on the main hallway. The Baileywick's Best program offers a special sense of pride for all students' bricks build our Hall of Fame as the year proceeds.
Students who do an outstanding job using the character traits have their name put on a gold brick. All students who receive bricks receive a note to take home to their parents, and special recognition from the Principal or Assistant Principal.
